Some people are only capable of critical thinking as it pertains to WT doctrine. They are able to discern flaws in the WT's interpretation of the bible, but not in the bible itself.

Leaving the JW's and Joining Another Cult...
by God_Delusion inhi guys and gals,.
if there's one thing that winds me up something rotten, it's a former jw telling me to "use critical thinking" to see that what the bible says is actually acurate.. arggggh!.
i've vented my frustrations in my article.

At what point did you destroy your Blood card?
by BU2B ini know for me it was soon after lurking here for awhile and reading some threads on the issue.
i remenber when i tore it into little tiny pieces.
it felt so liberating..

I don't remember actually destroying it, or throwing it away. I just remember not carrying it in my wallet the last couple of years I was still attending. I had left mentally long before. And even when I still believed, I had serious doubts about their blood policy.

If the world was different- A world ruled by women.
by fulltimestudent inthis 10 minute video follows a man and his problems as he attempts to deal with women in authority, much as a woman may experience in our own society.. maybe not a real stretch for the imagination.
there have been some matriachal soceities in history.

Wow, I didn't realize there were so many women haters on this forum
I didn't realize that having the audacity to point out that women are as capable of being corrupted by power as men made someone a "woman hater". Sorry, but I've seen a lot more man-hating on this thread, and on this forum in general.

Were You Ever Comfortable Going From House To House?
by minimus inbecause i was raised a witness, i don't think i was "uncomfortable" knocking on strangers' doors.
(weirdo).. but as i got older, i simply didn't want to bother anyone so i was at there door for no more than 30 seconds.
at the end i hated being there..

Never, not even when I pioneered. I got to the point, at the end, when I couldn't even speak at the door. I just went along for the ride.

Years ago the Society filed a Friends of the Court Brief with the Hare Khrisna to allow Airport witnessing
Didn't they also file a brief with the Supreme Court during the Jimmy Swaggart case? It's not unprecedented for them to do so, though, as a rule, they try to distance themselves from other religions as much as possible.

I just started getting the shot a few years ago, and have never had a reaction to it. I can't speak to how effective it is, because I've only had the flu once in my life, as a kid. I get the shot mainly because it's offered for free at work.

Doesn't the ARMAGEDDON teaching foster a MORBID view of the future?
by Black Man ineven when i was dyed-in-the-wool j-dub, i felt the armageddon teaching was one of the most morbid concepts to be hammered into the psyches of jws.
think about it, only jws would survive this catastrophe, which translates to roughly .001 percent of the population would survive while everyone else would die a horrible death.
that includes people who do good things and are good people, but are just not jws.

It definitely desensitizes JWs to tragedy. I remember talking with an elder right after 9/11, just to get his thoughts on it. His exact words: "It's 3000 people who wouldn't have survived Armageddon anyway."
And their dehumanizing of 'worldly' people is what makes the notion of God wiping out 6 billion people palatable. It allows them to disconnect from the reality of the level of death and destruction.

Someone is short on rent and needs $45.06 and all of a sudden huuuraaaa!! They find that exact amount on the sidewalk and can pay rent for a month. Blessing. Get a new job? Blessing. Got food to eat? Blessing. Had just enough tissue paper to blow your nose? Blessing.
Yes, it always amazes me that God is allowed to intervene in human affairs in only the most mundane of matters. He can't prevent a typhoon from killing 10,000 people, but he can put 50 dollars in someone's pocket.

B.O.E. 13/01/14
by LucidChimp in"in minnesota, a man said to his visitors: "i saw you coming, so i went to get this book.
" he held up a bible teach book and said that when he was in prison, he stole the book.
when asked if he had read it, he replied that he was going to read it on the weekend while he was fishing.

He stole it in prison? If they're gonna make shit up they could at least make it entertaining...like he shanked a guy in the yard for it.
